Herdsmen

By Ogbolu George

Four people are reported to have been killed in a clash between members of the Yakira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State and suspected herdsmen.

While confirming the killings to journalists on Monday, the Chairman of the Transitional Implementation Committee for the council, Musa Buge, said arrangements are ongoing to have a security meeting of the council to work out a way to forestall future occurrences.

It was reported that the community killed three herders in retaliation to the killing of a farmer who is a member of the community.

It was gathered that when the farmer confronted the herdsmen in his farm, they (herdsmen) attacked and killed him.

Ajayi Okasanmi, the state police command spokesperson, who also confirmed the killings, said he was not certain of the number of people killed at the moment.

He also said the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the matter.
