Agency report

Izuchukwu Ejinkonye, a 20-year-old trader for attempting to rape a teenage girl, was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The accused, who lives at Midland Estate in Amuwo-Odofin, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of attempted rape at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, committed the offence on Feb.3 at his apartment.

Ogu said the accused accommodated the 17-year-old girl in his house when she was stranded.

“The man took advantage of the girl’s situation and made an attempt to rape her.

“It was the girl’s screaming that attracted neighbours, who moved in and got the accused apprehended,” he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused a bail of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to March 16 for mention.
