Justice – Indian billionaire employer arrested for assaulting domestic help at last

Jay Keswani made news, in August, for allegedly assaulting his wife’s domestic help, Faith Nwaneri, on the Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos. Faith’s brother, Chukwuka, had made a public plea for justice. According to Punchng, Keswani was arrested on Tuesday, after about six weeks of evading arrest.
Faith was hit on the face on Friday, August 12, with a briefcase, for coming late to work. It was learnt that Faith sustained a facial injury after which she reported the matter at the Ikoyi Police Division.


Policemen from the division had reportedly gone to the Island to arrest the Indian, but were allegedly prevented from entering the area. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the Indian’s arrest, adding that he would be charged to court at the end of investigation.
She said, “When the suspect discovered that the police were on the lookout for him, he initially fled. But when he thought the tension was down, he returned to his house and was arrested. He will be charged to court.”
“The arrest of Keswani who allegedly assaulted Nwaneri in August, came following the intervention of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, led by its Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, after the victim’s family reported the matter to her office in Alausa.

Keswani was arrested by the police operatives from the Adeniji Adele Division after evading arrest for over six weeks.
Recall that Nwaneri’s brother, Chukwuka Ignatius, had brought the case of the assault to the public on August 12, 2016, when he narrated how his sister was beaten up by the Indian man for reporting to work late.
The victim suffered facial injuries and severe trauma after the attack and the case was reported to the Ikoyi Police Division but when policemen went to the Island to invite him for interrogation, they were prevented from going in to serve him notice by the security men.

Commenting on the arrest of the suspect, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmos, said he would be charged to court at the end of an investigation.

“The police arrested him on Tuesday. He was nabbed by the Adeniji Adele division. He was tracked to his house. When the suspect discovered that the police were on the lookout for him, he initially fled.”

“But when he thought the tension was down, he returned to his house and was arrested. The family support unit of the division is in charge of the case.
The Indian has not confessed to the crime, but all the evidence before the police indicate that he assaulted the lady. He will be charged to court.”

30-year-old Woman sentenced to 2 years improsonment for exploiting a 12 year old child

The Federal High court sitting in Minna, Niger State, on Tuesday, September 27th, sentenced one Glory Abang to 2 years imprisonment for engaging a 12 year old child in activities that were exploitative, injurious or hazardous to her physical, social and psychological development.
Mrs Abang, mother of three, residing at Chief Palace, Goram, Niger State was arrested by officers of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in July 2015.

She took her half sister from Akwa Ibom State to Niger State under the pretext of sending her to school but engaged her in activities that were exploitative, including sleeping in a Poultry facility at her residence which is exploitative and hazardous to the child’s psychological development. The child was also not enrolled in school as promised.
When the suspect was arraigned on Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to the one count charge but pleaded for leniency. Delivering his judgment Hon. Justice .Y. Bogoro convicted Mrs Abang and sentenced her to 2 years imprisonment She was sentenced under section 23(1) (b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 which says:
“Any person who employs, requires, recruits, transports, harbours, receives or hires out a child to do any work that is exploitative, injurious or hazardous to the physical, social and psychological development of the child, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a minimum term of 2 years but not exceeding 7 years without an option of fine”.
In his reaction, the Acting Director-General of NAPTIP, Alhaji Abdulrazak Dangiri applauded the Judge for the urgent attention given to the case and appealed to the Judiciary to ensure speedy trial of human trafficking cases.

Usman Jibrin has been granted bail by Abuja High court in N600 million fraud case

  • Court grants ex Naval chief, Usman Jibrin, N100m bail

Justice A. S. Umar of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama has granted bail to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Usman Jibrin, and two others who are currently standing trial for an offence bordering on criminal conspiracy brought against them by the EFCC. Others are retired rear admirals, Bala Mshelia, Sheu Ahmadu and a company, Harbour Bay International Limited.

According to the antigraft agency, the accused persons while in office, bought a house worth N600million from the account of Naval Engineering Services without the said purchase contract being captured in the budget.

Investigations by the EFCC reportedly showed that the documentation for transfer of ownership of the property was done such that a private company owned by the family of the first defendant (Vice Admiral Jubrin) became the buyer.

At the hearing of their bail application yesterday, the presiding judge granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100 million each with two sureties each in like sum. One of sureties must not be below salary grade level 16.

The sureties must have landed properties within the jurisdiction of the court which must be verified by the registrar of the court and the EFCC. They are to be remanded in prison until they fulfill all their bail conditions. Commencement of their trial has been slated for November 14th and 15th.

Suspected kidnapper apprehended in in Benue state

  • Suspected kidnapper caught while trying to abduct a child from school in Benue State

A suspected member of a kidnapping gang was nabbed on tuesday in Aliade, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State by men of the Gwer East Community Joint Task Force (CJTF)

According to eyewitnesses account who spoke to IPN, the suspect identified as one Aondolumum Nyimkaan, went into Mt.St. Michael’s Nursery and Primary School, Aliade, and snatched the child, Msendo Liamuza.

Some members of the community saw the suspect attempting to flee through the bush and alerted the CJTF who later arrested him in the bush. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having successfully kidnapped children in Igbor of Gwer East and Gboko Local Governments of Benue State.

A member of the CJTF team, while applauding members of the community and Mt. St. Michael school for their efforts towards the arrest, urged parents and staff schools in Benue State to be more vigilant and watchful over their children, wards and pupils.

A woman has revealed her horrific injuries after her thug boyfriend locked her in her house and battered her for four hours.

Kelsie Skillen, 19, has released the pictures of her bruised and swollen face as a warning to others after James McCourt, also 19, was convicted of the brutal assault.

The make-up artist, who shared a house with McCourt in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, was rushed to hospital after the attack in June this year which left her swollen and covered in cuts and bruises.

McCourt was remanded in custody to await sentencing after he admitted the brutal assault during an appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court .

In a Facebook post, she said: “Sorry for the graphic pictures but as a lot of you may know that in June my ex-boyfriend James McCourt basically locked me in our house for 4 hours and battered me repeatedly to the extent I was hospitalised.

As you can see mostly kept hitting my face, today was the court case and he was found guilty for everything he done to me, I am also now left with a scar.

“I’m purely just putting this out there so everyone knows what he’s like considering some people are still trying to defend him and others are believing he is being sentenced for something else as that’s what he’s obviously going to tell people. More pictures below…

Six people have been reportedly killed, with some of them burnt beyond recognition. According to reports; a petrol tanker driver lost control and rammed into a stationed tricycle with its driver and passengers trapped in it, at Calabar Itu expressway at Obong junction Akwa Ibom at about 7pm on September 26th. The tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep, went up in flames, burning all the occupants. Graphic pictures below…
