Princess Diana’s childhood book Noddy Goes to Toyland sells for more than £3,000 😮😮😮

The first edition of the Enid Blyton classic was sold along with other Noddy titles which belonged to Diana’s sisters

A Noddy book that belonged to Princess Diana as a young child has sold for more than £3,000.

Diana wrote her name in bold red ink in the 1960s on a ‘This book belongs to…’ label inside the hardback edition of Noddy Goes to Toyland by Enid Blyton.

The book was owned by the Spencer family until 1975, when the family moved out of the home they rented from the Royal familyand it was gifted to a royal footman who had young children.

The book, a 1949 first edition, was sold along with hardback editions of Noddy Had An Adventure and You Funny Little Noddy, which were owned by Diana’s older sisters,Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes.

Footman Ian Scott Hunter was given the books, which come in a custom fitted presentation box, by the housekeeper of Park House on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, where Diana grew up.

By 1975, the Spencer children had outgrown the books and Mr Hunter had young children of his own so they made a natural gift.

Five years later Diana met and married heir to the throne Prince Charles.

The three books have since passed through the hands of several private collectors and have now sold for £3,084 to a private UK collector.

Richard Davie from International Autograph Auctions, said: “The books have great provenance and came with a letter saying they were originally acquired by Ian Scott Hunter, a footman in the Royal household.

“He was given the books by the housekeeper at Park House on the Queen’s Sandringham estate. He had young children himself so was given these books and toys which the Spencer children no longer needed because they had outgrown them.

“Princess Diana is still a very popular figure with the British public and the collecting community.

“But the thing that’s really interesting with this item is it’s an early form of her signature and part of a royal princess’s childhood.

“It’s impossible to know for sure, but from her handwriting I would guess Diana was about five or six years old when she wrote her name in it.

“It sold for a great amount, three times the estimate, to a UK private collector.”

Diana’s family moved from Sandringham when her grandfather Albert died and her father John became the 8th Earl Spencer.

They moved to the family seat in Althorp, Northants, when Diana was 14. Six years later she married Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, and died aged 36 in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Since then items related to her have proven popular at auction. Five of her dresses sold in Beverley Hills last year for about £3m.

Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini banned from football for 8years

Blatter and Platini were found guilty of ethics code breaches over the “disloyal payment”.

Both claimed the payment was honouring an agreement made in 1998 for work carried out between 1998 and 2002 when Platini worked as a technical adviser for Blatter.

The payment was not part of Platini’s written contract but the pair insisted it was a verbal agreement, which is legal under Swiss law.

German judge Hans-Joachim Eckert, the chairman of Fifa’s adjudicatory chamber, held disciplinary hearings for the pair last week.

Charges included conflict of interest, false accounting and non co-operation, with investigators submitting a file of more than 50 pages.

See the ‘Super condom’ that could fight HIV and increase sexual pleasure ‘on sale next year’

The contraceptive has been developed by a team from the Texas A&M Health Science Center in a bid to combat the spread of the virus that causes AIDS, which still kills more than one million people per year

A ‘super condom’ that has anti-HIV properties and can increase sexual pleasure will soon be on sale to the public, according to scientists.

The new contraceptive contains an embedded antioxidant which could fight HIV and unlike most condoms, which are made from latex, it consists of a strong, elastic polymer called hydrogel, which is made primarily of water and is already used in other medical products, including contact lenses.

Designed by a team from Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, it could go on sale as early as 2016.

The condom’s plant-based antioxidant has been shown to have anti-HIV properties, which would be vital if the condom were to break, acting as a barrier to the virus.

Head researcher on the project Mahua Choudhury has previously said: “We are not only making a novel material for condoms to prevent the HIV infection, but we are also aiming to eradicate this infection if possible.”

And Dr Choudhury also told the BBC : “People say they don’t want to use condoms because it doesn’t have the same sexual pleasure.

“The antioxidant (in the condom) will enhance neurotransmitters which will work with nerve endings, giving greater sexual pleasure.

“If the HIV virus gets into the product, the condom will block it, prevent it replicating, and prevent entry (from the body).”

The condom is expected to go on sale next year at around $1 each.
