An Appeal court sitting in Abuja has sacked Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) or Saturday’s gubernatorial election. The judge, Justice Saulawa ordered INEC to restore Eyitayo Jegede as the true candidate for the party.
In his judgment, Justice Saulawa said principle of natural justice demands that all sides are given fair hearing and that Abang had no jurisdiction to order INEC order to publish Jimoh’s name as Ondo PDP candidate.
The Appeal Court said principle of natural justice demands that all sides are given fair hearing and that Abang had no jurisdiction to order INEC order to publish Jimoh’s name as Ondo PDP candidate. Appeal court agrees with Mr Olanipekun, lawyer to Mr Jegede that it is a misnomer for Jimoh Ibrahim to have benefited from the Abang’s ruling as he was not a party to the suit. All the objections filed by Mr. Ibrahim and his loyalists at the Appeal Court were also dismissed.
The Witches and Wizards Association of Nigeria, WITZAN, Ondo State chapter, has dropped their prediction on who will emerge winner of the 26 November governorship election in the state.
According to their claim, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu, will emerge winner of the election.
WITZAN President, Dr Okhue Iboi, made the revelation after a meeting of the association in Ese Odo area of the state.
He further stated that they have the right to practice whatever they want since Nigeria is a secular country.
He added that many Nigerians call them names in public but run to them at the back.
According to him, “This week’s Saturday election in Ondo State is going to be hotly contested between APC, AD, PDP, SDP and the candidate of APC will emerge victoriously. It is unfortunate that many Nigerians are hypocrites.
“When they hear witches or read about witches, what comes to their mind is evil or darkness. For our own witches group, we are children of light. We are for good.
“Have people forgotten that even in the Bible, there is a story of King Saul who consulted a witch when he was about to go into a battle to enable him know how the battle will go?
“Again people tend to forget that Nigeria is a secular state; Nigeria doesn’t belong to only Christians and Muslims, the nation is for all faiths.”
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has said that the newly inaugurated Neighbourhood Corps Agency will complement the work of the Police and other security agencies in safeguarding Lagos communities through intelligence gathering.
Ambode disclosed this at the inauguration of the agency in Lagos on Wednesday.
In October at the 3rd Quarter 2016 Town Hall Meeting in Lagos, Ambode had said the neighbourhood Safety Agency Bill, which he signed into Law on August 15, 2016, was part of efforts to institutionalise and deepen community policing in the state.
He had promised to raise 5,000 neighbourhood watchers to strengthen security across the state.
He also said that the new recruits would earn at least N25,000 monthly, along with other allowances.
His Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, in a statement released after the October Town Hall Meeting, said the state government made the move based on the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps Law, 2016 and a resolution by the House of Assembly.
Ambode had said, “We would go all out to make sure that this agency is activated and all our neighborhoods will be covered, and then centralise with the state government with all the necessary equipment and resources to ensure that we establish what we call community policing.
“We will re-brand Neighborhood Watchers and re-equip them to the level that each set of neighborhood watchers in all the local governments will have their vehicles and necessary equipment to complement security.
“We are also working on employing additional 5,000 neighborhood watchers in all our local governments and they will be paid by us, while the basic salary for the entrance level will be N25,000 per month.”
