A Dutywa, Eastern Cape man has been accused of raping his girlfriend after she refused to give him money on Thursday night at town’s GPO informal settlement.
Police confirmed on Sunday that the 30-year old man was arrested for the alleged rape of his 25-year old girlfriend on Sunday.
Police Captain Jackson Manatha said “The allegation is that the suspect went to visit his girlfriend on the night in question. He found the victim with her two [female] friends. The suspect demanded to be given some money”.
He continued in a statement, “When the victim did not have money, she was accosted and raped by the suspect”.
The friends had left the couple alone during the course of the argument, before the rape is believed to have taken place.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court.
