The African Union has readmitted the Central African Republic, ending a three-year suspension following a coup that sparked the country’s worst bloodshed.
At the time it was reported that about 1 million of the country’s five million population left the country.
Speaking on Morning Live analyst for foreign policy and international diplomacy, Dr Siphamandla Zondi, says with the coup came a lot of bloodshed.
“The AU had to react quickly and suspend the CAR. This was used to force them back into constitutional order,” says Zondi.
The CAR went into chaos towards end of 2012 when the Seleka group challenged the government.
The AU says lifting the suspension is done in view of the successful completion of the transition process, and the restoration of the constitutional order.
