Interview was done over the telephone : Transcript
Reporter – Hello sir
Ayuba – Hello My dear, how are you today
Reporter – I’m fine sir, it’s an honor to meet and speak with you sir, I’m very grateful sir
Ayuba – Don’t worry, it’s nothing
Reporter – I promise not to take too much of your time sir
Ayuba – Go on, go on
Reporter – So sir, it’d be a great honor to congratulate you on your upcoming album WONDAMAN, it’s coming on great as I have always known, can you please share the inspiration of your album
Ayuba – Well, thank you very much. The inspirations to my album are quite simple and they’re also part of the album as well; One is just God’s grace, when you as an artiste decide to tune out all the drama, issues and problems, flashy things that you’ve witnessed and laid your hands on, you just want to stay in your corner in a quiet room and reminisce about life – you would know what I am talking about if you stand on a stage to entertain multitude of people who are chanting your name and singing along to your song like you’re a demigod. At my age I have realized that God has indeed blessed me and is still blessing me. I have so much to thank God for and I had to put my ongoing project of a new album on hold to release this particular album. Music is my calling and God called me with this instrument and of course I answered. There are many parts of the album that talks about how I could had ended up doing some other type of profession in life but I became successful in something I fiercely loved so much and that I am eternally grateful for. Look at my late parents, they are great people, having a child who wanted to do music wasn’t an easy thing during my time but they encouraged me to go to school before I could embark on the trade of beautiful music, my mother carried me for 9 months and at the end of the day gave birth to a child that would change something in the world, that is not a small thing at all so I am so thankful to God because I have achieved so much and I have seen so much that I will ever be grateful to God for.
My second inspiration is my Fan Base, you know how it is in this world, so many people like your personality, your music, your style, your looks, your fashion sense and so on – some even just like your face and automatically want to be your friend so they want to listen to you. You see the things about fans is the joy and attentions they bring to you, it can fill up your belly I tell you. You can feel their energy when they are around you and even on social media, their laughter, prayers, anger, positivity and excitements is what drives us musicians to be at our best and never forgetting where we came from, it helps keep us in check. Imagine you have only 1000 people following you on some social media network, tell me would you not be afraid if these 1000 people appeared in front of your door one day?
Repoter – Laughing, yes oh, sir I would be very much alarmed
Ayuba – So that is what I’m talking about, imagine if just 1000 people following me on social media wanted to protect me and celebrate me in real life, that would be ecstatic my dear. So my fan base was and would always be a drive and inspiration for me to do good music. I love pure fuji and I have missed that although I know that as an artiste you need to keep up with the trend so I had to sneak out some time to give people the originality from Africa which is my Bonsue Fuji with all the instrumentals that made the genre of music different from others, you should see how Oyinbos dance to my music an shake their heads, laughs.
Reporter – Great sir, I have seen some of your old performances overseas and the western people do enjoy African exports.
Ayuba – Yes they do and it’s a beautiful thing to know my dear
Reporter – Thank you so much sir for the valuable time you have given me sir, I just want to ask you for something
Ayuba – I’m listening, what would that be?
Reporter – I would just like that you freely express yourself sir, before I go, I would greatly appreciate you to just say anything you want sir
Ayuba – Laughing, I was afraid, I thought you would ask me to borrow you 2 million
Reporter – Laughing, no sir but 2 million would not be so bad
Ayuba – Hmmm, leave that one jare, let me express myself.
Reporter – Ok, sir, please go on
Ayuba – You see this music is sweet, I’ve come a long way in this realm of music, i have survived and still living on music. I couldn’t do any other trade other than music. If God asked me what I would love to do in another world, I’d choose music over and over again. I just want to tell every single person that had purchased a piece of my album, every single person or company that had supported me in the past and present. I have my wonderful parents, my beautiful wife and children that had my source of undying love and positive energy all through my life, my fan base and the media platform. i have to thank the media; video, audio, print and the social media for always assisting people like us with our music venture, there’s no way I could have done all by myself and the media had always helped to keep people like us in check, people like you who go through troubles to even get on the phone to get interviews with me. Thank you very much and don;t be discouraged getting across to me for interviews are, we are all trying do our jobs are.
Reporter – Yes sir, thank you sir for that shout out.
Ayuba – It’s okay, you’re welcome my dear
Reporter – I hope to catch you on a face to face interview as soon as you’re back
Ayuba – No problems are
Reporter – Enjoy your travel sir
