China’s breathtaking glass bridge closes down just after 2 weeks

Now I guess some of us would wish we had been among the lucky brave ones to visit this astounding creation in China but are we too late now? China’s highest and longest glass bridge closes just less than two weeks after it opened because too many people visited the bridge. The record-breaking structure hanging over China’s Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon was opened to the public on August 20 but closed on Friday September 2nd.

A spokesperson from the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon’s marketing and sales said:

“We’re overwhelmed by the volume of visitors,” explaining further that the capacity of the glass bridge was limited to 8,000 visitors per day, but total demand was ten times as much.

He also confirmed that the bridge was not cracked or broken and that there have been no accidents. The six-meter-wide bridge stretches 430 meters over a 300-meter-deep valley between two cliffs in the stunning Zhangjiajie Park.

The bridge is said to have inspired the scenery for the sci-fi movie “Avatar.”
