The legendary Nigerian actor is 57 years old today, the Yoruba actor seems to be aging gracefully. Get to know some facts about him below…
- Yinka Quadri is a popular Yoruba actor born in September of 1959 in Owomeje Igbomina, Kwara State. He attended St. Catholic School, Idumagbo, Lagos, for his Primary School and later proceeded to Christ High School, Ebute Elefun, Lagos, for Secondary education.
- Yinka opted out of school to learn his father’s business and later went into acting. He started his acting career in July 16, 1977 under the umbrella of Taiwo Olayinka, a.k.a Agbodorogun, (Afopina theatre group) which later changed to Isale Oro, and he adopted Fagbamila as his stage name.
- He taught his theatre group how to commercialize theatre, book a hall, sell tickets for stage productions, dance and other things. In 1985, Yinka became the leader of a travelling theatre group known as Adetutu Theatre Organization. His first television series was ‘Agbodorogun’ followed by ‘Egbinrin Ote’, which was an adaptation of a book that Secondary school students used for Yoruba Language in the O’Level examinations in 1984, it was staged throughout Lagos State Schools with the permission of the Ministry of Education, and it was later adapted as a television series. In 1986, he sold a 504 car to produce a home video titled ‘Ojiji’ with Prince Jide Kosoko.
- Yinka wrote a play titled ‘Olaniyonu’ for the Lagos State Television, the known LTV 8 Ikeja, Lagos, where he played the role of Fagbamila (the herbalist who helped people in need). He also produced several series for LTV 8 which recorded huge success at that time. In 1988, home videos came into limelight; Yinka produced his first Yoruba movie titled ‘Ekun’, which was the late Alade Aromire production.
- In 1989, Yinka presented a special programme for the festive season which was aired in series on television station for about 2hours. Yinka also produced another movie in 1991 where he acted the character ‘Kura’, a metaphor he got from his father, and the name stuck till date. In 1992, he also sold a whole house to produce another movie ‘Oloruka’.Yinka Quadri has come a long way in the Yoruba Movie Industry, being one of the pioneers of the home video; he has also become a household name in the industry. His desire is to become an actor of international repute.
