The five-year-old gained worldwide sympathy when he was pictured wearing a plastic bag as a jersey but now has the real thing and a ball to play with – signed by his hero
A young Afghan boy who captured the hearts of football fans the world over for his love of Lionel Messi saw his dream become a reality when he received a signed jersey from the Barcelona star.
Murtaza Ahmadi attracted global headlines when a picture emerged of him wearing a plastic bag which he had fashioned into an Argentina shirt with Messi’s name and number on the back.
And the five-year-old will be delighted he no longer has to improvise with his sporting attire after Unicef revealed he has been given the real thing as well as a ball to play with.
“Murtaza has the real thing now,” the organisation tweeted. “Leo Messi helped make his dream come true & gave him signed jerseys & a football.”
