Check out how Dipo Abiola and Kong term girlfriend Ngozi Elendu met.

Bride’s story:

How we met:
My name is Ngozi (formerly Ms. Elendu, now Mrs. Abiola *big grin*) .

How did I meet Dipo?

Well..one day, my sister, her friend and I were just gisting in her room, then her friend randomly says,  “we should hook Ngozi up with my brother Dipo, they are both so nice”, and my sister replies “yes oh, we should actually”. I was actually interested  though I had never seen him before.

Weeks passed and I hadn’t gotten a call or heard anything about hooking me up again so I went to meet my sister and said “what’s up with the boyfriend you people wanted to give me now?” she laughed and said she had forgotten and I told her to please get on it.

I had just finished high school and was kind of bored at home.

Anyway, that evening I got a call, and omg! his voice was everything *sigh*, we talked all night, every night (thankfully MTN had free midnight calls at the time). A week later he came over to my house so we could meet for the first time. This was 8 years ago, and today, the rest is history!

The Proposal
Whenever I remember this day I always smile!

Ok…so I was at home one hot and boring Sunday, chillin’ with Dipo then one of my close friends calls me up and says, she and some other mutual friends are having a ‘cheer up’ surprise lunch for one of our friends whose boyfriend of 3 years had just broken up with her.

We were all unhappy about their breakup, so to me this lunch was an awesome idea just to make her smile. I didn’t suspect a thing because Dipo and I have a lot of mutual friends. I asked him to come along and he obliged.

The lunch was on the rooftop at the Intercontinental Hotel.  When we arrived, I started chatting with everyone and  kept asking when our friend was coming, why she was taking so long to show up. About two hours later, while in the middle of a conversation, I saw a waiter bringing a cake with sparklers and I laughed and said “are we going to eat the cake before she comes?”, next thing the waiter drops the cake with sparklers in front of me and on the cake was written “will you marry me?”‘

I couldn’t get myself to understand what was going on, I was confused. Dipo was on his knees right next to me and I could see his lips moving but I didn’t hear a single thing because I was dazed. I was so excited and shocked, it was like every single emotion in the world was going through me at the same time, lol.  I only heard people screaming “say yes now!”and I said “of course I will”.

I absolutely loved my ring and the fact that he got a photographer to capture every single moment.

Groom’s story:

How we met:
I met her sister at my sister’s friends place, then they both thought it was a good idea to introduce me to Ngozi. Weeks later , my sister gave me her number and we started talking. We eventually met at her house. She was wearing blue jean, a black t-shirt, brown glasses and a beautiful smile. Plenty Ice cream Factory visits, movies, LPMs and spaghetti Sundays. The rest is history.

The proposal
We had been dating for a while and everyone kept asking when I would propose, unknown to them, I was saving hard for the ring. After several months of research and sourcing, I eventually got the ring in July 2014 (I think I can proudly say I’m an engagement ring expert  now). I was going to wait until her birthday in December but that was too far, then I thought about proposing on my birthday in November but I was too anxious to wait that long. Then her NYSC posting came out and she didn’t get Lagos so I decided to do it before she left for camp.

It was a rather spontaneous proposal. on a Saturday, I was talking with a few friends and then decided I would propose the next day. Had to get TCD my photographer friend on board, got a friend to bring a cake to the venue, planned a little something with the band at the Intercontinental  Hotel and got one of her friends to get her to attend an event there. Everything went beautifully, Thankfully she said Yes!
