Court Stops Kano Emir From Re-structuring Palace

KANO High Court No. 5 sitting at Audu Bako secretariat has restrained the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II from demolition or tampering with any structure in the Emir’s palace, (Gidan Rumfa), pending the hearing of motion on notice.

In ex-parte motion paper made available to media men, the presiding judge Justice Ahmed Tijjani Badamasi has restrained the defendants from giving a quit notice or evicting any person residing within the walls of the Emir’s palace, by virtue of being Yan Fulani (descendants of past Emirs) or Palace staff (Bayin Sarki), pending the determination of motion on notice.

Other co-defendants in the suit were the Emirate Council and State Attorney General.

It was one Salim Abubakar Bayero who filed a suit against the Emir challenging the power of the Emir in allegedly evicting some occupants who are housed in the palace, with the alleged intention of restructuring the palace. The case was adjourned to 12th November, 2015 for the hearing of motion on notice.  And court ordered the plaintiff to serve the defendants with the processes.
