A 37-year-old bank staff, Olawale Ayeni, on Tuesday appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a customer of two million naira.
Ayeni, who resides in Fort Royal Homes Estate, on Airport Road, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count-charge of stealing and fraud.
The Prosecutor, John Ijagbemi, told the court that Abraham Bassey, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on Feb.13.
Ijagbemi said that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 17.
He said that a customer made payment of two million naira to the defendant, which he failed to remit into the customer’s bank account.
The prosecutor said that the defendant converted the money to his personal use, adding that the offence contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Penal Code.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Usman Shuaibu, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000 with a surety in like sum.
Shuaibu ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the case till March 17, for hearing
