Costa rested? Oscar out? How Chelsea could line up with Pato

The Brazilian, on loan from Corinthians, is available for selection and Guus Hiddink is set to rotate his squad with the Blues facing a run-in of three games in 10 days

A month after his loan move to Stamford Bridge, Alexandre Pato is finally fit enough to make his Chelsea debut.

Blues boss Guus Hiddink confirmed on Monday that the Brazilian is available for selection and could feature against Norwich City or Stoke City, with the Champions League last-16 second-leg clash with Paris Saint-Germain drawing ever closer.

Pato’s availability gives Hiddink another option in attack – how could Chelsea line up with the former AC Milan man in their starting XI?

Chelsea face three games in 10 days, and Hiddink suggested on Monday that Diego Costa could be rested ahead of the visit of PSG to Stamford Bridge, such is his importance to the Blues’ front line.

As a result, Pato could line up as a direct replacement for the Brazil-born Spain international, though he is an entirely different proposition to Costa as a centre-forward which would alter Chelsea’s approach.

Pato would face competition for a starting berth if Costa were to be left out, with Hiddink indicating Bertrand Traore is also an option, while Loic Remy is available for selection.
