Female teacher docked for allegedly calling neighbour witch

A 29-year-old teacher, Chidi Uzoma was on Thursday arraigned in a Kado Grade 1 Area Court Abuja, on a two-count charge of criminal intimidation and defamation of character.

The Prosecutor, Judith Obatomi told the court that Mrs Tina Peter of Kado Village, the same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja on March 12.

“The complainant reported that while she was getting her child ready for school, the defendant allegedly called her a witch. “She also alleged that Peter killed her new born baby that died on Feb. 26 and that she will deal with her,’’ Obatomi informed the court.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 397 and 392 of the Penal Code. However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied losing her baby recently.

Counsel to the defendant, Charity Nwosu, applied for her bail and assured the court that the defendant would not jump bail. The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N20,000, with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case till May 12.
