A 58-year-old, Ezego Ezobi, was on Wednesday sentenced to one year imprisonment for assaulting his landlady.

The landlady, Omowunmi Oshobusola of NW5/202 Adebuile Lane, Adamasingba Area of Ibadan dragged him to court for slapping her on the face.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olufemi Omilani, told the court that Ezego also maliciously damaged two doors and a window valued N45,000 property of Oshobusola on Feb.19, 2013.

The two-count charge read “that you Ezego on Feb. 20, 2013 at about 7:15p.m. at Adebuile lane unlawfully assaulted Oshobusola by giving her slaps on the face.’’

He said the offence contravened Sections 351 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II,Laws of Oyo State 2000.

Ezego pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Munirat Giwa-Babalola, in her judgment, sentenced Ezego to one year imprisonment.

She, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N50,000, following the plea of his counsel, Mr O. Uwawa, that he was a first time offender.
